Berkeley Gardens

Berkeley Gardens is a short street which runs between Brunswick Gardens and Kensington Church Street containing terraced houses on both sides with small front gardens.

The houses are mainly three-storeys plus basements.

Berkeley Gardens was part of the Sheffield House and Glebe Estate.

The freehold land on which the houses were to be built were sold by Thomas Robinson, who owned the estate, to Thomas Finlay, a Paddington builder, in 1856. (In fact, they were conveyed to the two businessman who had lent Finlay the construction money, as security for the loan). Finlay built Nos. 8-11 Berkeley Gardens on the north side between 1856 and 1862.

Nos. 2-7 Berkeley Gardens on the south side were built by Jeremiah Little in 1857-8. Little had bought the land from Thomas Robinson in 1854-7.
